Iowa Traction Railroad
Mason City
During the preceeding weekend the winds were somewhere around 40 MPH gusting to 50 MPH.  No need to go test the bases of electrical poles each year ... just wait for the wind to blow.

You will note the trolley wire is pretty tough and usually does not break. The line was cleared using a chain saw, slicing and dicing the pole from the bottom.  Then the high rail bucket truck was used to remove the mast arm and associated hardware from the running wire.  A couple of days later we had a auger truck drill out the rotten pole base and set a new 35 foot pole and
re-attached the mast arm, hog rod, and hardware back in place.
