Los Angeles Railway
73 on Route A at Temple
& Edgeware
1946
The tracks leading off to
the left of the photograph take one to the Edgeware Road shuttle, which
prior to 1942 had been a through route downtown and out to the southwest
of town. That was the 10 line, which was broken into two shuttles
in 1942. Therein lies the story of my knowing that I was a railfan,
since the 10 line also ran with sowbellies, and along much the same route
as the A. My mother thought that all sowbellies were A cars (which
is what we rode). Turns out that even before I was 6, I was continually
telling her that she was attempting to get on the wrong car.
And to think that she got
upset at my being a railfan!
