Los Angeles Railway
1445 on Route w at Washington
& Normandie
I think that is one of the
Washington Blvd. cemeteries to the left of the car (on the car's right,
that is). Somebody with a more dead-on identification can help, no
doubt. It is clear that many of these photos of cars 1416-1450 were taken
near the end of service on these lines, hence 1955, because it was only
at that late date that H-3s got assigned to the the W, F and S lines.
By this time, service had been reduced to an extent that permitted assigning
them to all lines, not just the 5 and occasional others. While some
may think me hard-hearted, the fact is that LATL reduced service in response
to a declining transit habit; it was not the reduction in service that
caused the decline in riding habit. Indeed, those lines that remained
heavy stayed as rail lines until it the LAMTA bustituted them. We
still wonder why.
