Los Angeles Railway
3159 on Route P at Broadway
just south of 1st Street. The building with many windows just to left rear
of the streetcar is the old Hall of Records which was between Temple Street
and 1st Street and was torn down in the ‘60s. (The building is on an angle.
It was aligned with streets that no longer exist.) The white
building behind the streetcar's trolley pole is the old State building
on 1st Street. It was declared unsafe after the 1971 Sylmar earthquake
and torn down. The area remains a vacant lot today. The buildings
to the right of the streetcar have been replaced by an annex to the original
Los Angeles Times building located at 1st and Spring Streets, expanding
the Times so it covers the whole block.
