Minneapolis
Hiawatha Light Rail
This is a picture of the
first of 22 light rail cars being built for the Hiawatha line in Minneapolis
at Sahagun, Mexico. Notice all the equipment is mounted on
the roof to keep dirt and salt from the streets from getting into the equipment.
The first car is now on line and going thru tests to eliminate "bugs" before
the rest of the fleet is built. The car is numbered 101A on one body
and 101B on the other passenger carrying unit. The small middle section
is the pivot for the two bodies and rides on it's own truck.
It is numbered 101C. A lot of overhead wire is installed and even more
rail iis in place, ballasted and aligned. Overhead is simple
catenary consisting of a primary messenger and a separate contact wire.
Progress is about 65% complete, on time and on budget.
